We got to “RAPSTAR” just in time and “Peaches” too late. As the former replaces the latter at #1 in America without (yet) becoming as ubiquitous as Justin Bieber’s drivel, it’s time to take stock of the number of tunes about fame-fame-fickle-fame that don’t curdle into an insular cheerlessness. Possibly BTS have recorded a few of those: after their 2020 I expect it of them.
I found a candidate for 2021’s most hateful song, only it’s not by a guy drinkin’ beer and wishin’ for the perfect girl but by a young woman who wishes men and women conform to the gender stereotypes I thought were in the rearview mirror
