Lyrically perform arm robbery: the best of the Wu-Tang Clan

Let me protect mah neck: I compiled the best of the 2000’s most thrilling album artist in February, therefore I didn’t cheat and include him. Lots of holes in 2017: I don’t own U-God’s debut; I no longer own Beneath the Surface or Tical 2000: Judgement Day (a Xmas present from my parents in 1998). But this weekend’s listening included the new Mary J. Blige and The W, the latter of which sounded so assured that in my euphoria I was tempted to call it the Wu’s best — and, really, would anyone disagree? The psychedelic experiments of 8 Diagrams (“Unpredictable”!) have held up well too. I’ll admit to my letting my enthusiasm wane since the mid 2000s: so much product, so little ears and years. Don’t condemn me, readers! That’s what friends are for.
