Singles 1/13

The year’s first excellent single was a 2016 holdover, and the first time a great single replaced another great single since — well, I can’t say (the other great single: “Black Beatles”). Drunk on euphony, Migos could have recorded a twelve-minute “Bad and Boujee” and I would’ve thought it too short. They show up the explicable J. Cole, as literal as a cold. Meanwhile two former One Directioners flop, one with a hitbound Taylor Swift collaboration. The week’s worst? Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello barely appearing on a Machine Gun Kelly top ten that samples a Fastball track I didn’t hear in 1998.
