Best films of 2015 – first half

Here are the films most likely to warrant a second or third viewing to qualify for a best-of list in late 2015 or early 2016. With the exceptions of the overlooked In the Name of My Daughter and the marvelous Girlhood, none of these are great. All are flawed but not cripplingly so. I can understand how A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence may represent the hardening of a manner, but Roy Andersson’s films are so damn droll.

Appropriate Behavior
Girlhood
Timbuktu
Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem
Results
Clouds of Sils Maria
In the Name of My Daughter
A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence
Mad Max: Fury Road
Aurora
Maps to the Stars
It Follows
Inside Out

Such a simple but interesting post… I gotta do one, too. I think the only ones here that aren’t on my own list are ones I have yet to see: Appropriate Behavior, In the Name of My Daughter and Aurora. The latter I was sad to have missed at the Miami International Film Festival, earlier this year.
